In an extreme environment such as Kazakhstan, effective surface preparation and correct application methods are essential to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of any coating system. Denholm Zholdas offers a full range of surface preparation techniques including wet and dry grit blasting, mechanical preparation and Ultra High Pressure (UHP) water jetting, all performed to internationally accredited standards.
Grit blasting is a well established and economical method of surface preparation. Using a variety of blast media in a jet of high pressure air, it is an effective method of preparing metalwork prior to painting or coating. As it is an abrasive technique, it profiles the surface of metalwork to provide an effective key for the paint.
In more environmentally sensitive areas, UHP Water Jetting is rapidly becoming the method of first choice for many applications. Water at extremely high pressures (30,000-40,000 psi) effectively strips old coatings leaving the original profile intact. As no grit is required, clean-up time is greatly reduced, airborne dust is eliminated and much less disruption is caused to nearby work. Denholm Zholdas operates a fleet of fully self-contained UHP units specifically designed for use in remote locations.
Other methods of surface preparation employed include mechanical preparation such as needle guns, abrasive discs and flap wheels. Denholm Zholdas also operate the accustrip technique utilising a soluble abrasive.
